When people talk about Yogyakarta City’s tourism, most of them would talk about Malioboro Tourist Site. This area is considered Yogya’s center of tourism, after all. Aside from shopping, visitors may find numerous famous places like Malioboro Mall, hotels, Bringharjo Market, Dagen, Vredeburg Fort, and much more! Somehow, people also come to the site for its history. They want to know how Malioboro Street was. Another common activity is relaxation, as visitors can simply sit on available benches located on the sidewalks!

The Nuance
In terms of nuance, Malioboro Tourist Site is cleaner and neater than before. It is because the local government has prohibited motorcycles to park on the sidewalks. Thus, tourists can walk and relax on the benches in a more comfortable manner. As for the street, the traffic is high and numerous types of vehicles are seen there including gig and pedicap. Not to mention various buildings and stores reside side by side neatly. Don’t forget the presence of street vendors who sold different kinds of products or souvenirs!

Exploring Malioboro Tourist Site
Tourists have many reasons for visiting Malioboro Tourist Site. The most common one is for shopping. Both traditional and modern shopping centers are available in that area, after all. Those who look for cheaper prices should go to street vendors who operate on the west sidewalks (in front of stores and restaurants). However, tourists must be able to bargain in order to get cheap prices. Otherwise, these sellers would offer an unreasonable price which is considered too expensive. As an alternative, tourists must go to the famous Malioboro Mall. The prices are fixed and many branded products are sold there.

The next thing to do is to visit Beringharjo Market, which is also located on the roadside of Malioboro Street. Many Batik clothes and antiques are sold in this historical market! Don’t forget to conduct bargaining, too, later. What is more? Most people come to Malioboro for food hunting, without a doubt. Thanks to the numerous types of foods that are available there. These include the famous Gudeg and Es Dawet! One thing, the price is considered pricier than others.

Another thing that tourists can enjoy in Malioboro Tourist Site is related to history. In the past, the street was so quiet and lots of tamarind trees grew in that area. When it comes to naming, according to the locals, is derived from the name of a Dutch who lived there between 1811 and 1816. His name was Malborough. Well, tourists can learn more about the history from local guides later.
