Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman

Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman is a Bangladeshi academic, currently the 28th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka. Prior to this position, he served in different academic, administrative and co-curricular development activities at the University of Dhaka including the Pro-Vice Chancellor (administration), Dean (Faculty of Arts), Chairman, Department of Islamic History & Culture, and Provost of the Kabi Jashim Uddin Hall, University of Dhaka. He earned Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in History from the prestigious Aligarh Muslim University in 1997. He was a Fulbright Scholar at the Boston College, United States of America (USA) where he researched “Religions in American Public Life”. As a British Council Scholar at the Center for Christian Muslim Relations, Department of Theology and Religion, University of Birmingham, England, Dr. Akhtaruzzaman studied “Muslim Communities in United Kingdom”. Dr. Akhtaruzzaman has a post-graduate diploma in Persian language, and completed Bachelor of Arts (honours) and Master of Arts (M.A.) in Islamic History & Culture (IHC) from the University of Dhaka, securing first position in both the academic programs. Since 1990, he has provided leadership in different academic, administrative and co-curricular development activities at the University and National level, including elected member for different period in the Dhaka University Senate, Syndicate and Academic Council; member, (2012 – Present) Trustee Board, Prime Minister’s Education Assistance Trust), Government of Bangladesh; Council Member (2006-2009), Asiatic Society of Bangladesh; General Secretary (2005-2009) and Vice President (2016- Present), Bangladesh Itihas Parishad. Dr. Akhtaruzzaman led the National Committee for Textbook Crisis Resolution formed by the Government of Bangladesh in 2009 as convener. Besides, he is associated with different professional and socio-cultural bodies including Bangla Academy, Bangladesh Association for American Studies, Bangladesh Association for Fulbright Scholars, and Indian History Congress.

Professor Delwar Hossain

Delwar Hossain, Ph.D. is Professor of International Relations, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh and concurrently the Director of the East Asia Center, University of Dhaka. Delwar was the Chair of the Department of International Relations, University of Dhaka during 2009-2012. Delwar earned his Bachelor and Master’s degrees in International Relations from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He did his second Master’s degree in Asia Pacific International Relations from International University of Japan (IUJ), Japan in 2001. Delwar earned his Ph.D. in global and intercultural studies from Ferris University in Yokohama, Japan in 2007. Delwar was a Visiting Professor to the University of Yamaguchi University, Yamaguchi, Japan during 2017-2019. Delwar received the prestigious Asian Development Bank (ADB) Award, Japan Government’s Monbukagakusho Award, Dean’s Award from International University of Japan during his academic career. He also received research fellowships from several funding agencies such as the University Grants Commission, CIDA, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), Ford Foundation, Japan Foundation, and UNDP.

Delwar recently published books on COVID-19 Global Pandemic and Aspects of Human Security in South Asia: Implications and Way Forward (New Delhi, 2020) [co-author]; Bangladesh-East Asia Relations: Changing Scenarios and Evolving Linkages (The East Asia Study Center, University of Dhaka, 2019) [Editor]; Globalization and New Regionalism in South Asia: Issues and Dynamics (Dhaka, 2010) [author]. Md. Saiful Islam is currently serving as a Research Associate at the East Asia Study Center (EASC), University of Dhaka. Prior to that, he pursued an internship and also worked as Research Assistant in the same Center. Mr. Saiful has working experiences as Research Associate under a research project of DMP, Field Researcher at Centre for Genocide Studies (CGS), University of Dhaka, Field Investigator at the WARBE Development Foundation, also at FES Bangladesh. Aditi Chakrovorty is currently working as a Research Associate at the East Asia Study Center (EASC), University of Dhaka. She has several experiences of working as research assistance in field under supervision of UNDP, USAID, Obirodh Road to Tolerance Project and Centre for Genocide Studies (CGS) of University of Dhaka. She also acted as a lesion officer at the ‘First meeting of Former High Commissioners of India and Bangladesh’ in 2014. She is contributing in Social Science research by publishing articles internationally (American Journal of Social Science, International Transaction Journal of Engineering, management, & Applied Sciences and Technologies, Seshadripuram Journal of Social Sciences).
