Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) was established through a Decree of the Minister of Forestry in 2005. Bromo Tengger Semeru area was designated as a national park partly because it has a unique ecosystem where has a caldera inside a caldera in the form of an active volcano (Mount Bromo) inside the Mount Tengger caldera with the sea volcanic sand around it.

The uniqueness of the ecosystem and the beauty of natural panorama of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) make this area one of the mainstay tourist destinations in East Java, even nationally. The Ministry of Tourism has even designated the TNBTS area as a National Tourism Strategic Area (KSPN).

Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) covers an area of 800 sq km. Visiting TNBTS can see plumes of smoke coming out of Mount Semeru, an active volcano which is 3,676 meters above sea level (asl). The caldera in this park is the largest on Java Island, with a barren desert covering an area of 10 km.

While the sandy Tengger in TNBTS area has been protected since 1919. It is believed to be the only conservation area in Indonesia, and possibly in the world that has unique sea sand about 2,000 meters above sea level. There are several mountains inside the Bromo caldera.

Meanwhile, in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park there are at least 38 protected wildlife species consisting of 24 bird species, 11 mammal species, 1 reptile species, and 2 insects. Among several species of rare and endangered animals are the Javan Eagle (Nisaetus bartelsi), Javan Leopard (Panthera pardus), and Javan Lutung (Trachypithecus auratus).

Madakaripura Waterfall has a height of 200 meters, and has been named the highest waterfall in Indonesia after Si Gura-gura Waterfall in Toba Samosir, North Sumatra. This tourist destination offers various photo spot with the background of Mount Banyak. Visitors who come can take selfies and relax while enjoying the cool air. The name Taman Langit (Sky Garden) was chosen because of its location at the top of a hill and close to the sky. Meanwhile, Gunung Banyak means Mount Goose. This concept from the Sky Garden describes the seven Lights of the Human Chakra (angel). Therefore, this tourist spot is decorated with 2 statues of woman with wings as a depiction of angels. There are also three other statues: Goose Wahana Brama, Garuda Wahana Wisnu, and Lion Wahana Shiva. All three are the picture of God’s manifestation as creator, sustainer and recycler.

Because Sky Park is located in mount Banyak area, the place to buy tickets can be directly at mount Banyak ticket counters. There are four public bathroom facilities that can be used. Two men’s bathrooms and the rest for women.

The route to the Sky Garden can be through Batu City. The journey can be started from the Batu Tourism Town Square. The distance from Batu Town Square to Sky Park is about 8 kilometers or the same as 23 minutes. If you are already at Batu Town Square, you can direct your vehicle to the west on Jalan Gajah Mada towards Jalan Sudiro. Walk straight following the main road and take Jalan Panglima Sudirman. After seeing Hotel Ind on the right side of the road, direct your vehicle to turn right towards Jalan Raya Songgoriti. After that, turn right again to Jalan Arumdalu. Keep on following the road until you meet Warung Pojok on the right side of the road, then turn right onto Jalan Arumdalu. Keep walking, then turn left onto Jalan Rajek Wesi.

If you have found Bakso Idola on the right side of the road, direct the vehicle to turn right and then turn right again. After that, turn left onto Jalan Gunung Banyak. Follow the main road and you will arrive at the Banyak Mountain Sky Park.

Train
You can order a train to Malang Station. There are many trains from Gambir Station (Jakarta) and Pasar Senen Station (Jakarta) to get there such as Mutiara Selatan Train (Gambir), Bima (Gambir), Gajayana (Gambir), Matarmaja (Pasar Senen), Malabar (Pasar Senen), and Jayabaya (Pasar Senen). The cheapest ticket price currently is the Matarmaja Train.

Arriving at Malang Station, you can continue your trip using public transportation to Arjosari Terminal. After that, you can continue to take public transportation to Bayu Angga Probolinggo Bus Terminal and switch to village transportation to Cemoro Lawang, Ngadisari.

Bus

The trip to Bromo from Yogyakarta can be reached by train. You can start the trip by ordering a train ticket to Probolinggo Station. You can order a train ticket for the Sri Tanjung train, for Lempuyangan-Probolinggo connection. The train will depart at 07.20 AM from Lempuyangan and arrive in Probolinggo at around 16.12 PM.

Spending eight hours by train, you will arrive at Probolinggo Station. Continue the trip by using Elf transportation that leads to Cemoro Lawang. However, the transportation does not always exist all the time, or only in a certain time. If you are not lucky, you can continue from Probolinggo Station to Bayu Angga Probolinggo Bus Terminal. You can take city transportation. Arriving at the terminal, you can continue your trip by Bison transportation to Cemoro Lawang.

Apart from trains, from Yogyakarta to Bromo can also reached by other transportation, buses. From Yogyakarta you can depart at Giwangan Terminal. The choice of bus is Mila Sejahtera from Yogyakarta to Banyuwangi or you can also take the one that goes to Yogyakarta – Jember. You can get off at Probolinggo Terminal. Then, the route will be the same after that, taking the Bison transportation to Cemoro Lawang.
